7 Black Owned Health & Beauty Brands to Buy From Today

Hello, beautiful people from across the lands! 2020 has exposed a system that’s ignored and dismissed, that system is systemic racism. With the unruly death of George Floyd, Breyonna Taylor and so many others there is an awakening in this nation to demand change. One of the changes that are a huge conversation is the wealth disparity within the black community. To help combat that there is a movement to buy black. I have been intentional to research to see if there is a black business that offers the product or service I am seeking. I have found 7 Black-Owned businesses to support in the health & beauty sector. Let’s get into it!

The Honey Pot

The Honey Pot is plant-based feminine care providing menstrual and vaginal cleansing products. It is the first feminine care system powered by herbs. The CEO/Founder Bae Dixon suffered from bacterial vaginosis for months. Bae shared she was given a herbal recipe in her dreams from Ancestors and the rest is history!

Best Periodt

Best Periodt is a menstrual cup created by Freedom Slay Podcastor Gaynete. This product has not launched yet but you can sign up to get notified of its release. Lip Bar

The Lip Bar was created in 2012 to help address the lack of diversity and messaging when it came to the standard of beauty. The Lip Bar pitched this beauty boundary breaker idea to Shark Tank and was shot down by every investor! Fast forward to now Lip Bar has been featured in Essence, Oprah Magazine, ELLE, TODAY, Ebony and the receipt goes on and on! With bold lip colors, Lip Bar has created an innovative lane for black and brown beauties.

Bolden Skin Care

Bolden Skin Care line is designed for black and brown girls to embrace their natural beauty. This line is created by two beautiful black women who were very intentional in creating products that work well with women of color. This skincare helps address the complex needs of black and brown skin.

Belle51

The Belle51 is the first Beauty Technology created by a black woman that focuses on the specific skin issues of black and brown communities. Belle51 opening product is the laser for hyperpigmentation. The groundbreaking laser is designed to address the scarring left behind by acne. The CEO/Founder Lisa Pegram was intrigued to create this laser after realizing the lack of options for women of color to address their skin issues. Belle51 has expanded into other products that offer an oil serum and an automatic microneedling tool.

Telfar

Do you own a Telfar bag? If you like luxury things GUCCI and Louis Vuitton swap it out for a black-owned luxury line. Telfar was established in 2005 in New York City. You can find handbags, hats, belts, jewelry, and more on their site. You have to act fast because they sell out quickly!

Ellevi Body

Ashy ain’t classy! Ellevi Body was created by CEO/Founder Lavida after discovering a body butter she could only purchase in DC was discontinued. After looking high and low for a replacement the ashiness was real! Lavida took it upon herself to recreate a body butter she loved. After sharing with family and friends the demand began to go beyond her inner circle. The birth of Ellevi Body offers body butters, scrubs, and oils intentionally made with quality ingredients.

BONUS Business: The McBride Sisters

Last but definitely not least. This business does not fit in the health and beauty sector but I could not just leave it out. The McBride Sisters is the LARGEST black-owned wine company in the United States! The half-sisters’ Robin and Andrea were birth by two different women sharing a farther. They were separated from each other half of their lives unaware of the existence of each other. Connecting during their teens they later discovered they both had a shared love for wine. Connecting their bond as sisters with their passion for wine birth the McBride Sisters Wine Collection. Now that I think about it this business has healthy and beauty written all over it!
