Hello, beautiful people from across the lands. I have been pretty transparent on my thoughts by starting and trying to grow a blog. One of the cons I’ve mentioned is the learning curve when trying to build your blog brand. Let’s get into the mistakes I’ve made thus far with blogging. Hopefully, you can avoid these if you decide to join the blogging community. Alright, let’s get into it!

3 Mistakes to Avoid When Starting A Blog

Signing Up for Affiliate Programs with Low Traffic

I definitely put the cart before the horse signing up for affiliate programs as soon as my blog went live. The problem with that is most affiliate programs will remove you if you are not bringing in enough traffic. I suggest waiting and focus on growing your audience before you dive into any affiliate program. Now, this may not be the case for everyone. Some folk can launch a blog and do great from day one. Only you can really determine where you fall in this. I suggest focussing on growing your audience and engagement before jumping on affiliate programs.

Not Batching Your Content

Oh Lord, this is a big mistake I am paying for right now! Not batching my content is the very reason why I am doing Project 104 now. Don’t laugh at me ya’ll but when I went live I literally had two posts ready for the first week and that was it. Just two! If I was smart I would have done Project 104 before going live with the blog. Batching your content is smart because it allows you to free up your time to focus on other areas of the business.

Growing your audience is a science that takes research and a solid marketing strategy. When you don’t batch your content meaning having a plethora of post going live automatically it can hinder other areas that may need your attention. I think a safe rule of thumb is to have at least 1 to 2 months of content ready to go in advance. If you blog once a week that’s 4 post a month, twice a week is 8 post a month. Instead of being like me playing catch up pushing out 89 posts in just 65 days! I’m not crying your crying. I lied I’m crying!

Not Having a Solid Marketing Strategy

I think not batching my content is my number one big mistake and marketing is right behind it. For your blog to be successful you need an audience. First off you need to know who your audience even is. Your message isn’t for everybody but it is for somebody. I talk about this in my post “Sometimes it’s Not the Message but the Messenger”. Not having a marketing plan in place to captivate that audience is a recipe for disaster. For bloggers, that’s low to no engagement, low traffic to your site, and not attracting your ideal audience because you haven’t identified who they are.

Realizing my mistakes is just the first step to finding a solution to the problem. The next step is developing and executing a plan. I am realizing with Project 104 there are many areas needed for growth. I’m going to keep pushing for it! If you are thinking of starting your own please learn from my mistakes and have a much more solidified plan in place.

Until next time keep dreaming, believing and achieving.
